The Norwich Research Park (NRP) is one of Europe's largest and most successful single-site concentrations of research and development in the areas of plants; microbes; food, diet & health; the environment; information systems and medicine.  It is set in a parkland environment just 5 minutes drive from the City of Norwich. It houses over 15 start-up and spin out companies with interests including DNA fingerprinting, patents and trademarks, health policy and engineering and development.

The Park has 6500 staff, over 900 postgraduate research science students and an annual turnover of £260m.  Over the last few years £350m has been pumped into developments and a new wave of expansion is underway. A Sports Park with an Olympic size swimming pool opened in 2000, a £220m, 1000-bed District Hospital opened in November 2001 and a new medical teaching and research faculty opened in 2002.

The NRP is a powerful cooperative of the University of East Anglia, the John Innes Centre, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Trust, the Institute of Food Research and the Sainsbury Laboratory.
